Ah, Pistoler Dödar Inte, Kapare Dödar. Och I Bland Med Pistol. Hmm, Finns Det Något Problem Här?

Nu har några övernitiska EU-tjänstemän fått för sig att det ska bli tillåtet med “Sky Marshals”,  det vill säga beväpnade “poliser” ombord på flygplan. Det är NÄSTAN en lika korkad idé som den att piloterna skulle vara beväpnade. Uppenbarligen påhittade av folk som är helt verklighetsfrämmande, eller som har sin bild av hur kapningar går till tagna från Hollywoods actionfilmer.

Alla som ska ombord flygplanet, utom “the sky marshal” kommer såklart gå igenom de sedvanliga, ändlösa (och meningslösa) kontrollerna. Det innebär alltså att man kan vara helt säker på att det bara finns ett skjutvapen ombord. Så vem skulle vilja åt det? VAR kan den svaga länken i resonemanget vara? Jaja, det är såklart hemligt vem som är “the sky marshal” ombord, men hur svårt är det att ta reda på vem det är? Man skapar en scen med visst allvar, låter personen identifiera sig, och sedan har man några timmar på sig att klubba ner “the sky marshal” (exempelvis kan man ju använda någon av de löjliga mängder tax-free sprit/vin flaskor man får ta med sig ombord till det) och sedan har man plötsligt beväpnade kapare. Tjo, det var ju en förbättring. Eller om man ska förfalska en identitet för att ta sig ombord olovligt, vilken ska man då förfalska… Hmm, låt mig tänka…

Men, vem vet, jag kanske bara är naiv. “The sky marshal”-gänget är säkert alla Rambotränade, har kattlika reflexer och kan busta-caps i ett helt dussin kapare utan att ens bli svett. För det är ju verkligen ett vanligt problem med kapningar. Eller, vänta lite. Det är ju extremt ovanligt. Det finns i själva verket dussintals platser där beväpnade vakter vore mycket nyttigare. Som exempelvis de lokala nattbussarna på helgerna.

Nej, det är såklart bara en säkerhetsåtgärd som är för syns skull. Den har precis lika liten verklig inverkan på säkerheten som det idiotiska vätskeförbudet. Om hotbilden är så hög att man måste ha beväpnad vakt ombord, ska man såklart inte flyga alls. Om flygbolagen verkligen vill att folk ska känna sig mer nöjda med flyget borde de fokusera på:

• Att hålla tiderna (jag pekar särskilt på Air France här).
• Att ha en särskild avdelning för högljudda/livliga barn, där de MÅSTE sitta.
• Att ha särskilda platser för de som tar upp mycket plats. Nej, jag har inga fördomar om er, men det är ingen höjdare att sitta fastklämd mellan två främmande människors kött under en längre flygning.
• Att inte tvinga alla passagerare genom ändlösa, meningslösa, säkerhetskontroller som bara är till för syns skull.
• Benutrymme! Jag är sannerligen inte lång, och jag har det trångt. Jag lider med er som faktiskt är långa.

Movie Review: 300

After waiting for a long time, the local cinema finally choose to show the movie 300. Don’t really know why the wait, but for a while they were considering not showing it at all. But, we do get dozens of crappy Swedish movies, so who am I to complain?

300 is a historic movie based on a comic book. My personal favorite of all history, specifically Greek history, is the battle of Thermopylae. Not only because of the valor of the Spartans, but because of their extreme civilization. It is one of the weirdest societies I’ve ever read about, and probably one of the harshest to live in.

The movie is based on a comic book, rather than history, and the visuals show this clearly. Pretty much everything is computer animated, and it looks really good. The story is one of valor, but, the main story is action. Violence. Massive amounts. In fact, stunningly massive amounts. Among the 120 minutes the movie lasts, at least 90 of them are pure violence. Not that I’m complaining, but even I was surprised. Beneath all the violence, gore, deaths, freaks and naked breasts (yeah, they really don’t care about the American rating) it is a really good movie. I enjoyed it tremendously, and can’t wait for the DVD. This is a wonderful, non-stop, violence fest.

Some words on the political context: Yes, this movie gives a poor image of, well, pretty much anyone else than the Spartans. Especially the Persians, who mostly seem like evil freaks. And, I don’t really believe that Xerxes was a gigantic androgynous man. But, this is a MOVIE, not a documentary. Relax. And do read up on the real history behind the events. The Persian culture is fascinating too!

Verdict: Must see (as long as you like violent movies, otherwise stay away!)

Movie Review: The Ex

When Scrubs is good it is really good. And Arrested Development is probably the best written show in the history of sit-coms. So, the possibilities when Zach Braff and  Jason Bateman are in the same movie, The Ex, should be awesome. And, there are some funny moments. Like… when making fun of the handicapped. But they are far between, sadly. Braff pretty much plays Dorian, the characters are really the same. Bateman is good as the bad guy, Amanda Peet is, for once, not playing the stuck-up bitch (check her previous parts, she always plays the bitch). But the movie stays far to close to the formula for its own good. Even the “I love you so much” speech in the end is there. Not that the movie is bad, far from it, but the best part is the bloopers in the end.

Verdict: See.

Movie Review: Alpha Dog

In Alpha Dog we follow a gang of young criminals, in an downward spiral of drugs and violence. Based on real events, the movie serves mostly as an interresting insight into the life of well off smalltime crooks in suburbia, smooching of their parents, doing drugs and living the good life. Until they suddenly get involved into serious crimes, especially a kidnapping, where they suddenly find themselves facing real, hard, time. My initial attraction to this movie was Bruce Willis (yeah, I admit I’m a fan) and also curiosity to see whether or not Justin Timberlake could act. No, there weren’t much Bruce Willis in the movie, and yes, Timberland can act. Or, perhaps not. I don’t know if “playing an obnoxious rich kid” is such a stretch for him, actually, but, hey, it works here. The movie is a rather horrifying insight into how violence escalates, and worth seeing.

Verdict: See

Movie Review: The Hoax

In the Hoax we follow the story of an elaborate, if well meaning and at the beginning unwilling, con-man trying to convince his publisher that he is going to write the autobiography of the mysterious and highly private millionaire Howard Hughes. He do, however, not have a single connection to Hughes and makes it all up, but in the process becomes entangled with Hughes personality.

Lasse Hallström has a great talent for telling stories, and this is an interesting one. I, personally, think that Richard Gere always plays the same part, but with different names. Alfred Molina, however, is terrific as the second fiddle. The problem is that I don’t really care about anyone in the story. Hallström simply doesn’t manage to tell the story in such a way that it comes to life. The historic angles are good, of course, but this is the kind of movie you can both see and miss. If you like the historic period, however, you should see it.

Verdict: See (But just barely, and do rent it).

Movie Review: Big Nothing

Once upon a time David Schwimmer was a funny guy. You know, last century when everyone laughed at “Friends”. Watching old “Friends” reruns now is a harsh reminder that not all comedy ages with grace, although there are some exceptions (Seinfeld seems to last, at least when choosing from the current nightly reruns). Schwimmer has had a hard time when picking roles lately, his best was perhaps the small part in “Band of Brothers”, but then, everyone was great in that series… But – to the point. Big Nothing is not a big budget movie. My main attraction for seeing it wasn’t Schwimmer, but instead it was Simon Pegg, who impressed me somewhat in “Shaun of the Dead” and a lot in the brilliant Spaced. Funny guy. I was REALLY surprised, how ever, as it turned out to be a really entertaining black comedy. A very black comedy. Things go really wrong, everyone is at risk, and you’ll probably laugh all the way. At least if you’ve got a dark sense of humor.

Verdict: Must See.

Gröt – Gröt – Gröt – Kan Det Bli Bättre Frukost? Bäst är Banangröten!

Ja, det kan det säkert. Men, efter att ha harvat runt bland de flesta fling & flakes & jox-sorter som finns, så  har jag funnit mitt hem i gröt. I SvD idag kan vi läsa om att det nu kommit en grötkokbok. Vore jag mer äventyrlig på morgnarna vore det fint med inspirationen, kanske. Själv håller jag mig till min favvis banangröten:

1 banan
1 dl fiberberikade havregryn (Willys har de med mest fibrer!)
2 dl vatten
några stänk med salt

Mosa bananen. Blanda i gryn & vatten & salt. Micra i 2.5 minuter. När den precis är färdig, ta i lite honung. Energirikt (vilket är nyttigt på morgonen) och väldigt mättande och gott. Ett måste för en bra frukost för mig, och jag står mig länge. Receptet hittades ursprungligen i någon Axa-receptsamling med “saker som Magdalena Forsberg äter till frukost när hon tränar” (som alla var Axa-mat-baserade, konstigt nog…).

En Väldigt Läsvärd Artikel Om Abort

Abort är en svår fråga, både etiskt och praktiskt. I SvD skriver Stefan Swärd en väldigt intressant debattartikel om ämnet, som lyfter fram lite intressanta historiska perspektiv. Mycket läsvärd!

Däremot kan det ju märkas en ganska tydlig åsikt som Stefan själv driver om aborter, på ett sätt man kanske inte ska ha vid just forskning, men detta är å andra sidan en debattartikel. En intressant vinkling på abortfrågan förs fram i Freakonomics (som är en MYCKET läsvärd bok) där det påvisas hur stor påverkan aborter har på en kraftigt minskad brottslighet, eftersom många som aborteras skulle födas med sådana föräldrar som skulle ge dem en ökad sannolikhet att bli kriminella. Det är inte en kanske helt politiskt korrekt vy, men lik väl är den ganska väl underbyggd. Vi i Sverige har ju en skräck för allt vad som kan verka vara samhällsplanerande och lider av ångest för gamla tiders steriliseringskampanjer, men vissa åtgärder får oväntade, och i vissa fall, positiva konsekvenser. Läs boken!

Holyfield Boxas i Sverige! Utbudet Ökar, Överraskande Nog.

Det är med viss glädje jag konstaterar att de nya lagarna om proffsboxning faktiskt erbjuder möjlighet till lite mer intressanta matcher här i Sverige. Förvisso tycker jag att boxning huvudsakligen är rätt trist att titta på, men det är ändock skoj med ett ökat utbud. Det är fascinerande att de nya lagarna verkar fungera och faktiskt ökar utbudet!

SvD skriver idag att  Holyfield kommer till Sverige, vilket sannerligen är en skräll om det nu blir av. Dessutom kommer Riddick Bowe gå en match! Och Åsa Sandell ska gå titelmatch! Känns inte som en gala jag vill missa!

Good Old Home Remedy For A Sore Throat

Earth Clinic gives some tips for sore throats. While I haven’t had a bad throat since the flu, I did have a bit of sore throat the other day and found it a perfect time to try one of the remedies: Gargle with cayenne water. It is not a well tasting remedy, let me assure you, but not as horrible as one might think, far from it. I later added salt & apple cider vinegar. Gargled with two glasses during the evening, and the throat felt better the day after. I don’t know if the gargling made it better, but it proved, at least, that the remedy can be used and doesn’t taste too horrible. Will continue to use in the future for further testing.
